How can Happiness Help You Get Organized?
The idea of being organized makes people happy, but the truth is most people don’t get happy about the actual task of organizing (except me). If you allow yourself to take a more positive approach you might be surprised by your results.
Science has proven that when you are happy you make better decisions and that your brain offers more creative solutions. When you are in unhappy, angry, or just plain blue you are more likely to make poor decisions and be less creative. So the next time you think about getting organized and that feeling of dread comes over you, change your attitude before you get started.
So how can you make yourself happier?
Most of us have heard of the idea of finding your happy place. Most of us learn this trick to help us deal with stress, but your happy place can make you happy anytime you like. So, you can use this same technique to help you find happy when you are about to embark on solving the problem of your disorganized business.
I know that when I am out with family and friends and we are having a great time, we are able to solve all the world’s problems. Now I know the reason for this is that we are happy and that allows our thoughts to be more creative, and we are more likely to share our ideas, since we are all in a happy state of mind, we are more receptive to the ideas as well.
This is the same result you can achieve with your organizing goals if you can get to your happy place before you start the work. When you are happy, you tend to be more relaxed and I believe this is what makes it easier for solutions to come to you.
Conversely, when you are in a crappy mood, you are rarely productive or creative. I have adjusted my calendar if I know that my mood can’t be lifted to a place of creativity and productivity. For example, recently there was a mass shooting in the US in an area of the country where I used to live, this affected me deeply – so I didn’t write that day. I did still do some work, but not on anything I would be sharing with others.
You know your moods and you either already know how to make yourself happier, or you will need to learn to make yourself happier if you wish to be a productive solopreneur.
What Else Makes You Happy?
I keep a folder on Evernote, that I call inspiration. It has links to funny videos, or inspiring stories. Whatever pulls at my emotions in a positive way, I save, so that I can get that feeling again and again. I highly recommend you do the same and then you will always have your happy place just a mouse click away. Keep a folder of pictures of your famly or your pets, anything that brings a smile to your face. Happiness can be a choice, and it is a choice that will help your business grow.
